| Born
to an affluent home in 1957 in India, Hersh discovered he was
happiest when he was by himself, his true companion with only
his camera equipment and his thoughts providing sufficient company
as he trawled Nature's rich reservoir of experiences, travelling
to 80 countries and 219 cities. |
| Today,
recognized for his work on the natural grandeur of the Earth,
Hersh has pledged over 44,799 specimens of his visual art to the
WWF. The spiritual relationship has also added to itself a new
dimension. Concern for the environment and the documentation of
how man ravages it, has moved him onto this frontier. This uncompromising
concern now brings attention to issues as varied and important
as wildlife preservation, protection for the rain forests, the
ozone layer, pollution of our waters and air. |
|
Hersh has authored "Elements, I, II & III", a collection
of photographic books that capture nature in its varied moods.
He has donated the proceeds from the sale of the Elements series
to the WWF. "Elements" can today be found in the prestigious
libraries of Harvard and Stanford. Incidentally, some of his works
can also be found on the walls of these hallowed halls of learning
and in the possession of eminent personalities including several
members of the royalty. Hersh has recently published his book
of photographs – Hersh Chadha : Visions of Nature. He has
also been awarded the Associateship from the Royal Photographic
Society (ARPS), which is a specialised Distinction, awarded for
a high degree of proficiency and the demonstration of a high technical
and visual competence in the field of photography. |
| In
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Hersh had been working with The Arabian
Leopard Trust (ALT). It is concerned with conservation of indigenous
Arabian wildlife. Hersh is also associated with the Environmental
Research and Wildlife Development Agency (ERWDA). ERWDA's overall
aim is to enhance the sustainable development of the Emirate's
environment and wildlife. Hersh has made significant photographic
contributions to these agencies. In addition, Hersh has been engaged
in photography expeditions intended to document the movements
and behaviour patterns of migratory birds and their nesting habitat
at the Sir Bu Naair Island. These exercises have been conducted
under the auspices of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority,
Sharjah. Photographs from this island were contributed to the
Environment and Protected Areas Authorities' exhibition held on
World Environmental Day, 5th June 2001 at Sharjah. |
Hersh
has also been actively associated with World Press Photo. His
desire to establish photography as an art form saw Hersh institute
a special award |

| Residing
in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, he runs a global network of diverse
business activities. An avid reader, keen economist and collector
of objects d'art, Hersh is a man of many facets. He contributes
generously to various charities such as Al
Noor Training Centre For Children With Special Needs,
Dubai and the De Wildt Cheetah Centre, South Africa. Apart from
Nature and Photography, he is also a supporter of upcoming talents
in the field of Sports. Hersh has sponsored Navdeep Singh, a budding
tennis player from Dubai who is currently playing in the ITF Men’s
circuit. Hersh has also sponsored Ms. Misha Grewal, winner of
the Indian National Women’s Squash Championships from 1992
– 1996. Ms. Grewal was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award,
India’s highest sports honour, in 1998. |
| As
he never tires of saying: life is beautiful and photography only
enhances it. Indeed, have camera, will travel seems to be his
life's eloquent mission statement.
